under the pale blue presents At the Table: Points of Contact, the inaugural edition of an ongoing series of artist-designed dinners and exhibitions exploring the intersections of art, food, and community. Bringing together twelve women artists, Points of Contact considers connection through shared rituals, creative exchange, and collective experience.

What happens when we come together at the table?

A point of contact can be a handshake, a shared inspiration, the ties that connect a circle of friends, or the spark of an unexpected encounter. The table brings these moments together, a place where separate lives briefly intertwine. Objects become vessels for memory, gestures take on meaning, and something intangible emerges in the space between us. In gathering, we do more than break bread—we create something greater than ourselves.

Inspired by Judy Chicago's landmark installation The Dinner Party, which honors women's histories, achievements, and often-overlooked contributions, the exhibition draws upon the idea of the table as a space for women to share their stories and express their individual visions. Rather than simply reimagining dinnerware, At the Table celebrates the distinct perspectives each artist brings to a shared experience, and the possibilities that emerge when women come together to create, exchange ideas, and inspire one another.

Central to At the Table is the intention to build community through creating. Throughout the exhibition's development, the participating artists have gathered through studio visits, shared working sessions, and other meetings, creating opportunities to exchange ideas, discover one another's practices, and form new relationships. These experiences have become integral to the exhibition itself, extending its theme of connection beyond the objects on display and into the process of making them.

Six artists translate their visual languages onto hand-thrown ceramic plates and bowls made by Betty's Ceramics Club. Each artist creates four plates and two bowls, working with shared forms that provide a cohesive foundation while allowing individual styles and perspectives to emerge. Designed to be mixed and matched, the resulting combinations become points of contact themselves, bringing different artistic practices into conversation.

Six additional artists contribute one-of-a-kind sculptural objects, including vessels, cups, butter dishes, and champagne holders. Moving between function, ornament, and sculpture, these works offer distinct interpretations of the objects and rituals associated with gathering. Together, the two groups expand the possibilities of the dining table, transforming familiar objects into expressions of individuality, creativity, and shared experience.

The exhibition culminates in an intimate dinner at Binx, an artist-designed restaurant and gathering space created by participating artist Rebecca N. Johnson. By bringing contemporary art beyond the traditional gallery setting, At the Table seeks to break down barriers between artists, their work, and the audience. Through the unhurried ritual of a shared meal, guests are invited to sit with the artworks, hear the stories behind them, and engage directly with the artists, creating space for deeper conversations and meaningful connections.

The connections extend beyond the audience, as a portion of proceeds benefits City Harvest, New York City's first and largest food rescue organization, which collects surplus food and redistributes it to New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity. This partnership carries the spirit of gathering beyond the table and into the broader community.

About under the pale blue

under the pale blue is an itinerant curatorial project founded by artist and curator Britt Harrison in 2024. Based in New York, the project operates without a fixed location, presenting exhibitions and programming in collaboration with participating artists and partner spaces.

Working with a growing roster, under the pale blue focuses on championing women and gender-nonconforming voices while creating opportunities for artists to exhibit, connect, and build community.

Through exhibitions, performances, and collaborative events, the project seeks to foster meaningful dialogue, encourage creative exchange, and make contemporary art more accessible beyond traditional gallery settings.

The name under the pale blue reflects the idea of gathering beneath one shared sky. It speaks to the communities, cultures, and experiences that intertwine within the particular moment we are living through together, and to the connections that emerge when different perspectives are brought into conversation.
